THE JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE AGENCY SHARES THE MEANING OF TZEDAKAH
On Sunday May 23, 2010, over 300 people attended the Jewish Family Service Agency’s (JFSA) 3rd annual Tzedakah Brunch at the new Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The event highlighted all of JFSA’s important programs and services with a special focus on Project EZRA called “Miracles Take Work.” Project EZRA provides counseling and emergency financial aid along with employment preparedness and placement.
The Tzedakah Brunch is held to honor friends, donors and clients of JFSA with a goal of generating revenue that will help sustain providing food, counseling, emergency aid, employment, adoptions, Holocaust education and Survivor support for our community.
This year’s honorees included Rabbi Sanford Akselrad of Congregation Ner Tamid, Andy Katz, President of Manpower, Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies and Jewish Federation of Las Vegas. Project Ezra client Kevin Bailey, Director of Operations for Letizia Mass Media was recognized and Christina Primack, Acting Executive Director of JFSA and Director of Project EZRA, was the Keynote Speaker.
A special feature of the event was “The Ultimate Interview”, a workshop conducted by influential professional women, “Miracle Mentors,” volunteering to help Project EZRA clients refine their interview skills. This instructive activity was held concurrently with the Tzedakah Brunch in an adjacent area to demonstrate Project EZRA in Action.
JFSA represents our Jewish community’s level of commitment to the principles of Tzedakah. Project EZRA is the highest form of Tzedakah as it helps empower people to become independent.
The highest form of Tzedakah (charity) is to strengthen the ability of the less fortunate through help and training to gain employment, lifting them out of uncertainty to become self sufficient. |
