Holocaust Survivors Assistance
|
JFSA serves many of the nearly 350 Survivors living in Las Vegas, many of whom are struggling emotionally and financially. JFSA receives a social services grant for Nazi victims from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany which includes assistance in the following areas: Filing claims for reparations, counseling and/or case management services to provide emotional support, ensuring access to food, supplying medical and prescription assistance, and offering social opportunities. In addition, JFSA receives funds from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for the Emergency Assistance Program for Nazi Victims at the direction of the United States District Court supervising the lawsuit in re: Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation (Swiss Banks) which provides short term cash assistance for basic living necessities. In 2009, JFSA was able to provide over $65,000 of much needed assistance to our local Survivors.

Details of Services Provided for this Program:
JFSA is committed to assisting local Holocaust Survivors with any and all Life Management issues. We help in the following areas:
Financial Many of the Survivors we see have underestimated the cost of living in this metropolitan area. Because of the unanticipated high rents and utility bills, as well as emergency medical costs many of these seniors come to us initially for short term financial assistance. In the last 2 years alone more than 65 survivors received some type of rental, utility, medication, or food assistance from this agency totaling more than $40,000.00 in emergency assistance alone.
Home Care & Transportation After forming a relationship with the case manager, the Survivors often avail themselves of our other services including in home care, house cleaning, personal care, and transportation. At any given time, 20-30 Survivors are actively receiving these services. JFSA administers a yearly $30,000 grant provided by the Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, Inc. for these services.
Counseling & Case Management JFSA also provides individual counseling to Survivors and case management services at no charge to the client. Each quarter an average of 218 hours of referral services, restitution application assistance, and senior advocacy are provided to this population. |
