Project Ezra: Tzedakah receives on-going funding from the United Jewish Community/Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Jewish Family Service Agency is proud to serve the Jewish community of Las Vegas in as many ways as possible. The Tzedakah Program is one such JFSA service which provides for limited financial assistance to Jewish individuals and families experiencing a temporary financial crisis. This program is dedicated solely to our local Jewish population and in addition offers valuable information and guidance to these clients. Since its inception, the Tzedakah Program has provided substantial assistance to individuals, families and seniors in need.

The JFSA TZEDAKAH EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND is for Jewish individuals and families who have encountered a recent emergency that was unforeseen and beyond their control. If this emergency causes an individual to fall behind in their basic living needs such as shelter costs and utilities, he or she is eligible to apply for an emergency grant which is due to the following unforeseen events:

Personal Hardships

1. Death in the applicant's immediate family

2. Loss of income

  • Leave Without Pay (LWOP) due to severe illness
  • Family breakup - separation, divorce
  • Critical illness in the applicant's immediate family

Loss of Housing or Utilities

  • Eviction, notice to quit, notice of mortgage default, and utility shut off notices

Medical Emergencies

As a general rule, most medical emergencies are beyond the capacity of JFSA. However, assistance may be given for necessities that might not be completely paid for by health insurance such as;

  • Medications

Program Information and Hours

Clients will be seen by appointment, during business hours. These days and times are Monday - Thurs from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

All clients will be required to bring in the following material in order to obtain assistance:

  • Proof of income for all household members for previous 30 days
  • ID for all household members. Photo IDs for adults, Social Security Cards or Birth Certificates for children
  • Previous 2 months bank statements
  • Information regarding how you will pay rent & utilities after the assistance has been given
  • Documentation of the reason assistance is needed for example lay off notice, medical reason, etc.

Clients should also provide documents pertaining to their request:

 

  • 3-5 day Notice to Pay or Quit issued by landlord
  • Delinquency/Default Notice from Mortgage Company
  • Utility shut off notice
  • Other documentation to support requested services: medical, automotive or employment-related expenses.
